VIDEO! 1965 Framus 5/114-54 Fret Jet Thinline - pro setup/Player ready

General introduction and background:

Stunningly well preserved and beautiful, rare Framus 5/114-54 “Fret Jet”. This was one of Framus’ top of the line models in the early to mid 1960s. This specimen is dated 65 E, which means May 1965. It’s an all hollow thinline body guitar with three singlecoils, delivering a lot more sounds than most other guitars at the time.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately. But please read the description carefully!

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  620 mm

-Nut: ca 41,5 mm

-Weight: 3,22 kg

-Pickups: three Framus singlecoils, measuring at ~5K each. The pickups can be switched on/off individually, allowing all kinds of combinations, including all three pickups on at the same time (!). Two other slider switches engage a muffling tone circuit for the bridge and neck pickups. The pots are individual tone pots and a master volume.

-Body: probably laminated woods, maple?

-Neck:  slim very soft V, maple stripes with rosewood fingerboard, typical for Framus a rather flat radius of probably 12’’, small and low vintage frets.

-Hardware: all original and unique to Framus.

Condition:

-Body: excellent condition with minimal signs of age. The only damage is a strap pin damage to the rear (see pic), which might have occurred during shipping or someone slammed it to the ground too hard. This is stable and has been fixed, but it's visible if you are sensitive about such things.

-Neck: great condition. The neck is straight. Frets are in good condition, would rate them 7/8 out of 10. Typical low vintage style frets.

-Head: good condition; Framus logo has faded.

-Hardware: in good shape especially given the age of the guitar

-Originality: all original except for the bridge, which is a modern replacement. The posts may not fit 100% to the arched top, but the sound projection is great and the bridge allows for individual intonation of each string and great tuning stability as well as a low string action. The neck plate might not be original, it looks like someone made a 100% exact plastic copy of what surely must have been a metal original.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: Very good, low string action possible, now set at 1,5ish millimeters at the 12th fret. This is not a modern shredding fretboard, albeit you can play very fast and the flat radius helps with bending strings.

-Sound: Please watch the video. It’s a broad variety of tones which you can’t get from any other guitar of the time due to the three pickups and their various combinations. The hollow construction and slightly microphonic pickups make this best suited for clean and slightly crunchy applications.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

-Completely cleaned

-Frets polished and fretboard cleaned

-New 10 gauge Pyramid all nickel strings put on

-Setup concluded and ready to be played (just tune it up)

-Old gigbag included. The item will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material. If you wish I can buy a fitting case or gigbag at your costs.
