Fender Stratocaster Standard (1994) – Rare Transitional Model – Made During Factory Fire Period
- MIM Specs, U.S. Assembly – Verified by Fender

Here’s something you don’t see every day — a 1994 Fender Standard Stratocaster that sits at the intersection of history, rarity, and tone. While technically a “Made in Mexico” (MIM) model, this guitar has a very unusual feature: it has no “Made in Mexico” stamp on the headstock.

After extensive research and direct contact with Fender, I discovered why — and it’s fascinating.

The Story: A Fender Factory Fire

In 1994, Fender’s factory in Ensenada, Mexico suffered a major fire. Due to this disruption, assembly of certain Mexican-made models was temporarily moved to the U.S. factory in Corona, California. However, because these instruments weren’t legally manufactured in Mexico, Fender couldn’t label them as "Made in Mexico" — so they left that part off the headstock entirely.

Here’s part of the direct response from Fender:

"We did experience a fire in our production facility in Mexico and production was shifted for assembly purposes only. I couldn't tell you which guitars were actually assembled in the USA as we didn't log them in our database."

This guitar is one of those rare, undocumented transition guitars — MIM in specs, but likely assembled in the U.S. during a pivotal moment in Fender history.
