Effective Date: September 11, 2026
These Platform Transparency Disclosures (these “Disclosures”) supplement and are incorporated by reference into Reverb’s Terms of Use (the “Terms”). Capitalized terms used but not defined in these Disclosures have the meanings given to them in the Terms. In the event of a conflict between these Disclosures and the Terms, the Terms will control.
These Disclosures are provided in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (the Digital Services Act) and apply to users located in the European Union or European Economic Area. They describe how Reverb moderates content, handles appeals, addresses misuse, collects trader certifications, and ranks and recommends content on the platform.
1. Content Moderation
Reverb moderates content on the platform to promote a safe, trustworthy, and lawful marketplace. This section describes the policies, procedures, measures, and tools Reverb uses for content moderation, including the roles of automated systems and human review.
1.1 What We Moderate
Reverb may restrict or remove content, or take action against accounts, where content or conduct violates applicable law or Reverb’s policies, including the Listing Guidelines, Community Guidelines, Prohibited Items Policy, and the Terms.
1.2 Tools and Methods
Reverb uses a combination of the following tools and methods to identify and address content or conduct that may violate Reverb’s policies or applicable law:
• User reports. Reverb provides mechanisms for users to report content they believe violates Reverb’s policies or applicable law. Reports of illegal content are prioritized for review. Where a listing receives multiple flags, Reverb may automatically suspend the listing pending review by a member of Reverb’s Trust & Safety team.
• Human review. Reverb’s Trust & Safety team reviews flagged content and conducts reviews of marketplace activity. Human reviewers assess flagged content against Reverb’s policies and applicable law and make final decisions on enforcement actions, including decisions to permanently suspend or terminate a user’s account.
• Automated detection systems. Reverb uses automated tools to monitor account activity and user communications for fraud signals, including phishing, spam, and account takeover attempts. These systems do not scan or review listing content. However, where an account is suspended as a result of detected fraudulent activity, listings associated with that account may also be suspended.
• Cooperation with authorities. Reverb may take action on content or accounts in response to orders or requests from competent national authorities.
1.3 Actions Reverb May Take
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, Reverb may take one or more of the following actions:
- • Removal of a listing or other content, or restriction of its visibility
- • Suspension or termination of monetary payments or disbursements
- • Restriction of account features (such as the ability to send Reverb Messages)
- • Placement of an account in temporary suspension, pending review
- • Suspension or termination of an account, including automatic suspension of associated listings
When Reverb takes any of the actions described above due to a violation of the Terms, Reverb’s policies, or applicable law, Reverb will notify the affected user and provide a statement of reasons as described in Section 1.4.
1.4 Statement of Reasons
When Reverb restricts the visibility of content, suspends or restricts monetary payments, or suspends or terminates a user’s account, in whole or in part, on the grounds that the content or conduct is illegal or violates Reverb’s policies, the affected user will receive a notification that includes:
- • The specific action taken
- • The facts and grounds for the action, including the specific policy provision or legal basis relied upon
- • Where applicable, information on whether the decision was informed by automated detection tools
- • Information on how to appeal the decision (see Section 2 below)
2. Appeals
Reverb provides an internal complaints-handling system that allows users to appeal Reverb’s content moderation and enforcement decisions.
2.1 Who May Appeal
Any user affected by the following decisions may submit an appeal:
- • Removal of content or restriction of its visibility
- • Suspension or restriction of monetary payments or disbursements
- • Suspension or termination of access to Reverb’s services, in whole or in part
- • Suspension or termination of the user’s account
2.2 How to Appeal
To submit an appeal, contact Reverb’s Support by sending an email to [email protected]. In your appeal, include any information or context you believe is relevant to the decision, including why you believe the action was taken in error.
2.3 How Reverb Handles Appeals
Reverb handles appeals in a manner that is timely, diligent, non-discriminatory, and non-arbitrary. Appeals are reviewed by qualified members of Reverb’s Trust & Safety team and are not decided solely by automated means. Reverb will inform you of the outcome of your appeal without undue delay, including the basis for the decision.
2.4 Timeframe
Appeals may be submitted for a period of six (6) months following the date of the enforcement action.
2.5 Further Recourse
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your appeal, you may have the right to refer the matter to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, where available. Information on certified out-of-court dispute settlement bodies will be made available as they are designated by the relevant Digital Services Coordinators in EU Member States.
3. Misuse and Repeat Offenders
Reverb monitors for misuse of the platform and may suspend users who repeatedly engage in abusive conduct.
3.1 Conduct That May Constitute Misuse
Reverb may determine that a user is misusing the platform based on the following types of conduct:
• Repeatedly providing illegal content. A user who repeatedly posts listings or other content that is manifestly illegal, including prohibited items, counterfeit goods, or content that violates applicable law.
• Submitting manifestly unfounded reports. A user who repeatedly submits reports of illegal content or policy violations through Reverb’s reporting mechanisms that are clearly without merit or basis in fact.
• Submitting manifestly unfounded appeals. A user who repeatedly submits appeals of Reverb’s enforcement decisions through the complaints-handling system described in Section 2 that are clearly without merit or basis in fact.
3.2 How Reverb Assesses Misuse
Reverb assesses potential misuse on a case-by-case basis, in a timely, diligent, and objective manner, taking into account all relevant facts and circumstances, including:
- • The absolute number of items of manifestly illegal content, or manifestly unfounded reports or appeals, submitted within a given time frame
- • The proportion of such items, reports, or appeals relative to the total number submitted by the user within that time frame
- • The gravity of the misuse, including the nature of the illegal content and its consequences
- • Where it can be identified, the apparent intent of the user
3.3 Examples
The following are illustrative examples of conduct that may result in suspension for misuse:
• A seller who, after receiving multiple warnings, continues to list products that have been identified as unsafe, recalled, or otherwise prohibited under applicable law
• A user who submits a high volume of reports flagging listings as illegal where the listings plainly do not contain illegal content
• A user who repeatedly appeals enforcement decisions with no new information or substantive basis after having received a clear explanation of the grounds for the original action
3.4 Consequences
Where Reverb determines that misuse has occurred, Reverb may suspend the user’s access to the platform, including the ability to post listings, submit reports, or file appeals, for a reasonable period. The duration of any suspension will be determined based on the severity and frequency of the misuse. Reverb will notify the affected user of the suspension, the reasons for it, and its duration.
4. Recommender Systems
Reverb uses automated systems to select and rank the content displayed to you across the platform, including in search results, on the homepage, and in personalized recommendations such as “recommended for you” or “similar listings.” These systems are designed to help you find relevant musical instruments, gear, and accessories.
4.1 Parameters We Use
The main factors Reverb’s recommender systems consider when determining which listings to show you, and in what order, include:
• Relevance to your query. When you search for an item, Reverb matches your search terms against listing titles, descriptions, categories, and attributes such as brand, condition, and instrument type. Listings that more closely match your query are ranked higher.
• Listing quality and recency. Reverb considers signals such as listing completeness (e.g., whether photos and detailed descriptions are provided), the date the listing was posted or last updated, and seller responsiveness.
• Popularity and engagement. Reverb may consider how frequently a listing has been viewed, saved, or purchased by other users.
• Price and shipping. Listings may be ranked based on price competitiveness within a category and the availability and cost of shipping to your location.
• Your browsing and purchase history. Where you are signed in, Reverb may use your past searches, views, saves, and purchases on Reverb to personalize the content shown to you.
• Seller performance. Reverb may consider seller ratings, transaction history, and shipping speed when ranking listings.
• Geographic proximity. Reverb may prioritize listings from sellers located closer to you to reduce shipping times and costs.
• Promoted listings (Reverb Bump). Sellers may pay to promote their listings through Reverb Bump. Promoted listings may appear in more prominent positions in search results and elsewhere on the platform. Promoted listings are identified with a “Reverb Bump” label.
4.2 Why These Parameters Matter
Reverb uses these parameters to surface listings that are most likely to be useful and relevant to you, to connect you with reliable sellers, and to support an efficient and trustworthy marketplace experience. Promoted listings are included because they help sellers reach buyers and generate revenue that supports the operation of the platform.
4.3 Your Choices
You can modify how listings are displayed to you in the following ways:
• Sort options. When browsing or searching, you can sort results by criteria such as price (low to high or high to low), newest listed, or ending soonest.
• Filters. You can apply filters to narrow results by category, brand, condition (new, used, etc.), price range, location, and other listing attributes.
• Account preferences. You can manage your saved searches and followed shops, which may influence the recommendations you receive. You may also clear your browsing history within your account settings.
If you are not signed in, recommendations are based on general popularity, relevance to your search query, and other non-personalized factors.
5. Updates
Reverb may update these Disclosures from time to time to reflect changes to its practices or to comply with applicable law. Material changes will be communicated in accordance with the notice provisions of the Terms.
