Luke III HH electric guitar finished in Starry Night with a roasted maple neck and ebony fretboard:

The Ernie Ball Music Man Luke III (LIII) "Starry Night" is a highly sought-after Premier Dealer Network (PDN) limited edition released in 2016. The "Starry Night" package was available exclusively through high-end retailers in the Ernie Ball PDN network, and applying it to Steve Lukather’s signature model created a particularly striking and high-performance instrument.

Here is a breakdown of what makes this specific limited edition unique, particularly regarding its specs and the matching headstock.

The "Starry Night" PDN Package

The 2016 PDN Starry Night run introduced several premium features that were unprecedented for Ernie Ball Music Man at the time. On the Luke III, this package included:

• Starry Night Sparkle Burst Finish: A deeply saturated, highly reflective metallic sparkle burst.
• Matching Headstock: While standard Luke models often feature natural roasted headstocks, the Starry Night edition includes a painted, matching headstock in the same Sparkle Burst finish, tying the aesthetic together perfectly.
• Unmarked Ebony Fretboard: This was a first for Ernie Ball Music Man in 2016. The jet-black ebony board features no face dot inlays (only side dots), giving the guitar a remarkably sleek, stealthy look.
• Stainless Steel Frets: The package upgraded the standard fretwire to durable stainless steel, which adds a touch of brightness and practically eliminates fret wear.
• Figured Roasted Maple Neck: The neck is carved from highly figured, heat-treated roasted maple and finished with Music Man’s signature gunstock oil and hand-rubbed wax blend for a fast, frictionless feel.

Core Luke III Specifications

Beneath the limited-edition cosmetic and neck upgrades, the guitar retains the core specs that make the Luke III a workhorse:

Because these were built-to-order for Premier Dealers during a limited window in 2016, production numbers are relatively low. The combination of the active preamp, the slick roasted maple V-neck, and the ultra-rare Starry Night finish with the matching headstock makes it a highly collectible piece on the used market today.
