The Martin 000-13E Retro Walnut is a great example of what Martin’s Road Series does well: traditional Martin feel and tone, modern playability, and an all-solid-wood build at a price well below the Standard Series.

This 000-sized acoustic-electric pairs a solid spruce top with solid black walnut back and sides. Walnut sits in a really useful tonal space—warm and full through the mids, but with plenty of clarity and note separation. Combined with the smaller, balanced 000 body and scalloped X-bracing, the result is a responsive guitar that works equally well for fingerstyle, flatpicking, songwriting, and general acoustic work.

Martin gives the Retro Walnut some tasteful Style 28-inspired appointments, including the rosette, dot inlays, white binding, faux tortoise pickguard, ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge. The gloss finish and aging toner on the spruce top give it a more traditional Martin appearance than many guitars in the Road Series.

The Performing Artist profile neck uses Martin’s High-Performance Taper with a 1 3/4" nut width and 24.9" scale length. It feels familiar and comfortable without being overly chunky, and the shorter scale gives the strings a slightly softer feel than a full-scale dreadnought.

For live use, the 000-13E includes Martin E1 electronics with an onboard tuner, so it’s ready to plug directly into an amp, PA, or recording setup.
