Modded DemonFX Tape Echo - Momentary On w/ Tails

Modded Demon FX “Tape Echo“ based on the Keeley “Magnetic Echo.”

I have performed a few simple mods amounting to making a “dedicated tails device.” I removed the original 3PDT, hardwired the notoriously quiet buffer, and installed a TLP222g photo-relay on an SPST footswitch tied to the PT2399 input. I also replaced the 3mm LFO LED with a 5mm frosted Blue. Rather than the 3mm blinking, you’ll see the brightness fade along with the LFO! It will stay off under 50% depth but brightness will intensify at higher levels. Battery operation is maintained. I installed a Procell 9V.

The lower board is still one assembly and sockets to the top board on a row header beneath the vero tracks. The Internal gain control should remain unimpeded - we are still utilizing the original buffer!

Expect the buffer to be “always-on.” You could place this pedal anywhere you would want a mono buffer. The soft-contact foot-switch now momentarily engages “echoes with tails” while lighting the original upper-top 3mm, clear-blue LED.
