This is a 2021 semi-hollow body short scale bass guitar in Jetglo, released to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the company. Breaking away from the design of the original 1960s 4005 basses, the 4005XC essentially grafts a bass neck onto a modified 360-style thin-line guitar body. It combines a highly resonant semi-acoustic aesthetic with full-sized, versatile electronics.

I ordered this on the day they were announced in Feb 2021: As I was the first in the UK to order the Jetglo version via the official dealer, this one has a cool "001" serial number! As it took over a YEAR to actually receive the instrument, I think the dealer gave me this one preferentially!?

The instrument is mint: exactly as it was the day I received it in early 2022. It has never been "played": I did have a little dabble on it for a couple of minutes when it first arrived: it was ready to play and in tune right out of the case...which was cool!

The certificate, cloth and several allen keys that came with it are included, as is the re-issue vintage silver-tolex case (also mint). It is still in its original cardboard shipping box, too!

The only thing that someone may see as a "deal -breaker" is that the case keys are missing!!Now, this is something that I noticed when I received the bass...but I had waited SOOOOO long for this, that I didn't really care about it at the time...and it has never been an issue, obviously!Good job the case did not arrive LOCKED! ;-)

I'm sure whoever buys this beautiful instrument will be well pleased: my life is increasingly moving in a different direction, and I can no longer justify owning loads of basses that , quite frankly, I never play!

I also have a '74 Mapleglo "real" 4005WB for sale (see other listing), if you're interested......

Regarding delivery / collection / shipping: This bass is expensive, big and fragile, so shipping is not cheap! As I will basically put the box in another box to ship it, the package will be even bigger / heavier!

I would recommend personal collection (Worthing, Sussex), or I may be able to deliver south-east England, if you cover my petrol?

I recently shipped a similar bass to the USA: international / insured shipping will be around £450. EU will be around £350, and I guess UK internal will be around £250?I won't know exact cost until I know destinations, and I have it packed up ready, with final weight and dimensions, etc.Drop me a line and we can sort something...but actually collecting it from me is the best / easiest / safest all round!

  • Unique Body Geometry: The bass utilizes a wide, striking dual-cutaway body shape. While the neck is short-scale, the large body makes the instrument's overall length comparable to a standard solid-body.
  • Deluxe Trim: Features striking "checkerboard" double binding across the body edges and a bound soundhole.
  • Classic Inlays: Adorned with characterful crushed-pearl triangle fret markers spanning the length of the fretboard.
  • Sonic Versatility: The semi-acoustic build delivers immense acoustic resonance, producing punchy highs and a deep, full-bodied low-end. Players note that the neck pickup yields a thunderous bass response, while switching to the bridge pickup captures the classic biting grit of a traditional solid-body Rickenbacker.
  • Ergonomics: The short 30.5" scale length allows for fast, low-tension fretwork. Players note it balances exceptionally well while sitting down, though the wide body and shorter neck point can feel unique on a strap compared to typical long-scale instruments.
  • String Setup: Because of the distance between the trapeze tailpiece and the bridge, the 4005XC requires standard "long-scale" string sets rather than short-scale strings. Some players may need to trim the silk wrap at the ball ends for a proper slot fit.
