Condition
This vintage Roland SH-101 functions, but it has its kinks and flaws from years of use:

The lowest D#/Eb key is not working.

To use the LFO Modulation function on the modulation wheel, you must pull the mod wheel in the opposite direction and then push.

The volume pot gets scratchy and must be manipulated.

The power button can detune the synth and must be manipulated if you need it in tune to A440

The output jack is a little loose and sometimes needs to be manipulated to get a clean signal.

The fader cap for the Release Envelope is missing and functions perfectly fine.

The battery cover has broken tabs, but still functions well.

The synth has minor cosmetic blemishes on the model decal logo, edges backplate (Check photos).

The back panel of the synth has some minor damage (pictured).

About the Roland SH-101

The Roland SH-101 is a classic analog monophonic synthesizer that was originally launched in 1982. The red and blue versions of this synth were limited edition versions in contrast to the grey model.

The VCO of the SH-101 uses a Curtis CEM3340; 1 VCO with a simultaneous 3 waveform mixer that allows users to blend different waveforms: Pulse with PWM, Saw, sub-oscillator and Sub wave (selectable -1 Oct. Square, -2 Oct Square or -2 Oct Pulse) The Pulse wave can be modulated by LFO, by Envelope or manually.

Other sections of the Roland SH-101 are its low-pass filter, a noise generator, an arpeggiator (up, down, up/down) and a 100 step sequencer with storage memory. The ADSR envelope generator controls the filter and the VCA. The pitch and pulse width can be controlled with an LFO.

The optional handgrip controls and shoulder strap buttons gives you the option to play the SH-101 as a keytar.
It can be powered via (6) 1.5V size C batteries as well or a power adapter.

The SH-101 gives you sounds ranging from "snappy and razor-sharp...bass," to "squelchy and expressive" leads, and a "piercing yet smooth filter."

A lot of famous artists are known to use this synth; anyone from Devo, Serj Tankian from System of a Down, to Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Skinny Puppy, Depeche Mode, Boards of Canada, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Tangerine Dream, etc...

In 2016, Fact magazine named the SH-101 "…one of the 14 most important synthesizers in history."
