******. SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS!!!!**********
Up for grabs is another one of my "Frankensteined" 12" super subs for home hifi...If I were to price this according to performance, it would be twice the price.
I built this one to keep and use myself, but I acquired a pair of Fostex 18s, so I'll go with those..
Anyhow, this thing was made at PMR in Ohio.... A customer of mine traded in some car audio "Super Sub",that was basically new ( I think it was a 15BMF or something), and I harvested the magnetic structure off of it. She has a 3" diameter voice coil too!
So, I bolted that onto one of my " Sunfire" style aluminum speaker chassis, and then the fun began!
The voice coil I used is a SINGLE winding dual layer voice coil... I'm not a fan of running 2 coils with a stereo signal, because with the variances in the L/R signals, they eventually beat up, and pull themselves apart..(think about it)...so, she's a single 8 ohm coil...FOUR layers , so you have more windings in the gap....
It's an aluminum former for thermal absorption..The winding height is like 1.25"....
...........................next, a high compliance high excursion treated textile FLAT profile spider was chosen..
The cool thing about this driver is it's cone and surround...
This was actually a very limited production run of cones made in the USA for Rockford Fosgate. It's a VIRGIN polypropylene cone, and is heavily talc loaded for great inherent dampening..Profile is straight/conical.Plus, the attach edge is flat, so it helps stiffen and retain the pure round/ piston shape of the cone under high power applications and not bend our break up like others will...
..............Having a butylene rubber half roll high compliance surround, it also aids in cone edge resonance issues and dampens out any secondary " ghost notes" for super clean midbass,..
I used high power FLAT COPPER Litz wires on this one as it's a SQ unit ...COPPER is SO much cleaner at transferring the signal to the voice coil than the usual industry standard pot metal silver/gray stuff which does nothing but smudge and smear the signal before it even gets to the voice coil... ANY of my new units or rebuilds- I use COPPER Litz wires. IT MATTERS.
Hook up is pretty basic and straight forwards.. it's the usual spade terminals, and it's a 4 tab system in case you need to tap off of it.
Impedance is 8 Ohms.. Power is somewhere in the 500 watt RMS area...response is 18hz- 300hz.. SPL is a respectable 92dB.
She has a few scuffs and scratches from being moved around the shop's shelves, but she's never been mounted, used, or sold... It's never even left the shop.
........Fellas', I know I'm the one who built it, but this thing IS that good!. it'll play LOW and clean...
It's been fully tested and operates without any rubbing, buzzing, holes, rips, tears, or smoking- it's basically a new unit...
Plus, I'm confident enough that you'll LOVE this one, that I am including my 15 day NO GAMBLE return option from delivery date (((less customer damage))) ifEASON you simply don't like what you just bought....
So, if you need a high SQ 12" for that current DIY project- then here ya' go!
ANY questions or concerns, just ask.
THANKS GUYS!
