LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. This instrument weighs around 250 pounds!
This is a 1979 73 key Fender Rhodes Mark I Stage Piano. I have owned and maintained this instrument since 2005 in a smoke free environment. I have used it only as a studio instrument, so it's only stayed in a few places in the time that I've owned it. I have loved playing and recording with this instrument, but I haven't used it for quite some time and it's now just taking up space...so I've decided to part with it.
The original sustain pedal and sustain pedal rod are both included.
Also included is a wooden shelf which I built. This shelf sits securely on top of the Rhodes. This allows you to place another instrument (like a synthesizer or a Clavinet) on top of the Rhodes.
Please watch the attached video for a detailed look at the instrument.
The original legs are *not* included, so you will need a stand to hold this instrument. I've had good luck using the On-Stage KS7350 Folding-Z Keyboard Stand (not included) as the keyboard stand, as it can hold up to 375 pounds. That's enough to hold the Rhodes plus the wooden shelf, and a Clavinet or synthesizer on top.
There are miscellaneous minor cosmetic blemishes on the Rhodes plastic top and some of the keys, but none of those things affect the playability or the sound. See the photos and the video for details on the exact condition of the instrument.
I have modified this instrument in the following ways:
- I've replaced the Tolex and the outside metal parts (like the metal corners and the metal that covers the side straps), so the outside of this instrument looks really nice.
- I've installed a switch between the 1/4" input (technically, it's an output -- I have no idea why Fender labeled this jack as an "input") and Bass Boost knob that allows you to switch between the direct sound from the harp and the Bass Boost/Volume controls.
The direct sound from the harp is the meatiest, cleanest sound you can get from a Rhodes; the circuitry that is part of the Bass Boost and Volume knobs tends to add a little bit of noise. Since this has been a studio instrument, I always recorded the Rhodes directly from the harp and then EQ'ed the sound afterward.
I have tried to be as thorough, detailed, and upfront as I can about the condition of the instrument via this description as well as with the attached video. If you've watched the video and read this description, you should know exactly what to expect from the instrument. Therefore, I am selling this instrument "As-Described". This instrument has served me well for many years and should continue to thrive in a studio environment.
