Purchased by current owner in 1988.
Often known as the Washburn Stage series (I think this is only for the re-issue series). Built in the Matsumoku Factory in Japan that built guitars for Washburn, Ibanez, Westone amongst others. Built between 1980 & 1985 – believed to be 1983 as the first two numbers of the serial number are 83.
The A5 was the budget version in the Stage Series which also included A10, A15 & A20. Often built with two single coils, this version originally had two Washburn humbuckers, and a tele style front mounted switchplate. Soft V neck profile.
Heavily modified in 2009:
Hand painted “skull paisley” design, nitro finish. Maple fretboard removed and replaced with ebony. Custom fingerboard inlays. Locking tuners fitted. Original bridge, stripped, chrome plated and refitted. Tele style switchplate removed and filled. New switches routed from rear. Seymour Duncan JB59 & JB SH4 pick ups fitted, each with coil tap.
Just had a fret/polish level and new strings.
