Vintage 1940s Shure 55C 'Fatboy' Dynamic Microphone, works w/stand & cable (F4)

Offering a vintage 1940's Shure Brothers Model 55C 'Fatboy' Dynamic Microphone. This is one of the real true classics when you're thinking of vintage microphones. The 55 series was introduced in 1939 and called "The Fat Boy" and continued in production for the next 20 years! The Shure Company specialized in audio products for institutional entities like school, libraries, factories, public address, as well as radio stations.

This one has some special historical significance. Between 1948 and 1952, CBS broadcast the "Hallmark Playhouse", an old-time radio dramatic anthology series, described by one author as "a program that consistently produced the highest levels of production quality and value." This mic was acquired from a long time collector who indicated that this mic was used in that Hallmark production. Note the "Hallmark" light engravement on the final photo!

This Shure 55C in generally nice condition, especially with the original screen cloth. Only the marker's badge has partially faded from handing. The original element no longer performed properly, so a new full-frequency capsule has been installed. (Check out the voice sample on the listing video.) This sale includes a new hardwired 8' cable, (3 pin male Amphenol to male 1/4" phono plug) plus the basic display desk stand.
