The amp

The GrandMeister Deluxe 40 is an all-tube guitar amplifier head, first released in late 2016. It’s a 40 watts, four channels head. It is a beautiful, versatile monster. You'll be able to throw a lot of things at it, and it'll stick.

The channels from “clean” to “ultra.” It features built-in effects, multi-watt ability (40, 20, 5, 1 W), up to 128 MIDI recallable presets (channel, EQ settings, FX loop, reverb, power attenuation system (Power Soak) settings), and iPasOS remote control ability.

The ensemble is in mint condition, except for a small scuff on the cab’s tolex (back side). Everything was purchased new from Sweetwater in 2024. I'm selling to downsize/refocus my rig.

Five effects are built-in the amplifier in addition to reverb: delay (50 milliseconds to 1.4 seconds, tap tempo functionality), chorus, phaser, flanger, and tremolo.

The GrandMeister’s power attenuator can make the amp range from the full blown 40 watts (“let’s blow the windows in the building, and/or try to bring it down”), down to 20 watts (“let’s burst our eardrums”) , 5 watts (“I am still louder than the drummer”), 1 watt (“I can finally practice softly enough to not wake up the neighborhood”), and silent modes.

The amplifier comes with its own DI box, called the Red Box. Once that XLR cable is plugged in, you’ll get access to a balanced, frequency-compensated signal ready to be fed to your mixing console.

Additionally, the head comes with an efficient noise gate that offers a wide range of response, from soft to hard.

The amplifier can be controlled through its front panel, through two free companion apps (iPadOS), and through an advanced footswitch.

The footswitch

The FSM 432 MK IV MIDI board is the footswitch of choice to control the GrandMeister. You can used it either in preset mode, or in stompbox mode. You can use it to cycle through presets, and preset banks, or to cycle through the four channels, and their respective settings. You can turn ON/OFF the boost per channels, and/or the delay, and/or the modulation effect. Additionally, you can also use the delay footswitch to set the tap tempo.

The WMI-1 wireless control interface

Connects the amp wirelessly to your iPad, and allows to control the amp, import/recall/back up presets using the WMI Connect and GM36Remote apps. The Hughes & Kettner website features plenty of artist created presets as well.

The 2x12" speaker cabinet

Hughes & Kettner's TM 212 2x12", 120 watts, 16 Ω, closed back cab, is loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. It can be extended to a second speaker cabinet if so desired. It can be used in both horizontal, and vertical orientation. It sounds lovely. There is a small tolex scuff on the back face.

Also included

I'm also including the original manuals, head transport bag, power cable, MIDI cables, speaker cable, and the various other box candy I still have. Everything will ship in its original boxes where applicable.

Digital versions of the manuals for the head, and for the footswitch, are available on the Hughes and Kettner site.
