Peavey HP2, Custom Prototype direct from Peavey in Poplar Burl Cobalt Burst.

This guitar is truly unique with it's True Temperament Stainless Steel Frets. The True Temperament frets offer perfectly accurate intonation across the entire fretboard and the Stainless Steel frets will never wear.

Peavey only made 10 of these, this one is #5 and includes the COA. Guitar is in Mint (as new) condition, never played except as a quick demo to confirm functionality. Protective plastic is still on the rear cavity covers. Guitar was purchased last year from my local Peavey dealer and stored in its hardshell case. I'm often asked if the unique True Temperament frets impact playability, in my opinion you really do not feel the corners of the frets, good enough for Steve Vai, good enough for me. The burl on this guitar is absolutely perfect, excellent swirling and color distribution is the best I have seen on any of these prototypes. This is sure to be a collectors item with a very limited number of guitars produced!

Includes the original hardshell case, tremolo arm, tools and official Peavey COA indicating this is #5 of 10.

Specs:

The Peavey HP 2 Poplar Burl RM is constructed with leading-edge technology, traditional handcrafted methods, professional-quality upgrades, and customizations. When a guitar bears the initials of Peavey founder and CEO Hartley Peavey, players can expect an iconic design with its own unique flair.
While the esthetic is classic, the HP 2 stands out with its carved top and offset, asymmetrical body design that offers comfort, proper balance, and maximum playing ease.
These models feature a Poplar Burl top selected for its natural beauty, weight, and tonal qualities. Roasted Maple was chosen for the neck, a process which removes moisture from the wood and prevents it from warping over time. This also helps the guitar maintain its tune. Cream edge binding accents the body.
Two custom-wound Peavey humbucking pickups supply optimal output and tonal response. They're made using a two-step wax-dipping process that provides ultra-low noise operation and resistance to microphonic feedback. The pickups are mounted directly to the body, further reducing feedback at high volume levels and enhancing response. A Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch allows selection of pickups in up, center and down configurations. Players will also find a Peavey/Floyd Rose licensed, double-locking tremolo assembly to complete the guitar.

What does “True Temperament” mean?

The True Temperament™ Fretting System is a revolutionary new way to construct guitar fingerboards with Curved Frets™ which tune accurately along the whole neck. We call it Dynamic Intonation™. The Thidell Formula One temperament will give you a super-accurate intonation.  All the different keys that a guitarist uses works perfectly fine all over the fingerboard.

How do I tune?

To tune a TT-guitar is not complicated at all. But there are some important things you need to have clear. For instance tuning the open strings – except for the A string – to an ordinary chromatic tuner will not work with a True Temperament guitar, as the open strings are not tuned in equal tempered intervals.
The Thidell Formula One temperament is built around fret positions and tuning offsets. Each set of Curved Frets™ is designed to specifications derived from our exacting Dynamic Intonation™ fret position process.
NOTE! All tuning offsets starts from zero cent in the “equal” temperament.
True Temperament chromatic tuning offsets:
E= -2 • F= 0 • F#= -4 • G= +4 • G#= -4 • A= 0 • Bb= -4 • B= -1 • C= +2 • C#=-4 • D= +2 • Eb= -4.

True Temperament open string tuning offsets:
6-string
1st E4= -1 • 2nd B3= -1 • 3rd G3= +4 • 4th D3= +2 • 5th A2= 0 • 6th E2 =-2

Why can´t I use a standard guitar tuner?

Tuning the open strings – except for the A string – to an ordinary chromatic tuner will not work with a True Temperament guitar, as the open strings are not tuned in equal tempered intervals.

Non programmable tuners can be used to a certain point. For instance like this:

Tune  A on all strings: 5th fret on the low E-string.  A on the open 5th string and the 12th fret. 7th fret on the D-string. 2nd fret and 14th fret on the G-string. 10th fret on the B-string. 5th fret on the high E-string.
If all octaves sounds the same, your instrument is well intonated.
