1968 Gibson J-200 – Vintage Kalamazoo Jumbo

Serial Number: 623525

Offered for sale is a beautiful vintage 1968 Gibson J-200, handcrafted in Gibson’s legendary Kalamazoo, Michigan factory during one of the company’s most desirable post-war eras.

The J-200 has long been regarded as Gibson’s flagship acoustic guitar and has been played by artists including Elvis Presley, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, and countless others. With its commanding projection, balanced tone, and unmistakable visual presence, the J-200 remains one of the most iconic acoustic guitars ever produced.

This example retains all of the classic appointments that made the model famous:

  • Original Sunburst finish
  • Spruce top
  • Maple back and sides
  • Maple neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • Split-parallelogram pearl fingerboard inlays
  • Original engraved crown headstock
  • Original floral engraved pickguard
  • Not original Mustached bridge
  • Gold Grover Rotomatic tuners
  • Original orange Gibson Kalamazoo warranty label
  • Original Gibson hard-shell case

Tonally, this guitar delivers everything expected from a mature vintage J-200. The bass is deep and articulate without becoming muddy, the midrange is rich and woody, and the trebles have excellent clarity. Decades of natural aging have given the instrument remarkable openness and sustain that simply cannot be replicated in modern production guitars.

The neck is comfortable and plays well up the fingerboard. The guitar has clearly been enjoyed over its lifetime and displays honest cosmetic wear consistent with a nearly 60-year-old instrument, adding to its character without detracting from its beauty.

Condition

Overall, the guitar is in very good vintage condition.

Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.

The bridge has had a repair to address a crack. It is stable and functional, and the instrument plays well. Aside from normal finish checking and age-related cosmetic wear expected of a vintage Gibson, the guitar presents exceptionally well.

Includes

  • Original Gibson hard-shell case

This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire an authentic late-1960s Kalamazoo-built Gibson J-200—one of the most recognizable and sought-after jumbo acoustics ever produced.
