Gibson ES-335TD 1968 - Cherry
Gibson ES-335TDC 1968 #901438
The Gibson "ES-335" is a classic semi-acoustic guitar that continues to captivate many players, combining the traditional resonance of a hollow body with the extended sustain of a solid body. Since its release in 1958, it has established itself as a standard model loved by many guitarists.
This particular guitar is a rare vintage "ES-335TDC" believed to be from 1968. The serial number is "901438" and it weighs 3.5kg.
While the main wood composition hasn't changed much, the most distinctive features of ES-335s manufactured during this period are the "Made in USA" stamp on the back of the headstock, the absence of a volute, a narrow neck with a nut width of approximately 39.7mm, and the use of small block inlays.
It is equipped with a so-called "T Bucker (T-Top)" pickup with a "T" stamp, featuring gold pole pieces here and removed pickup covers. The pots, toggle switch, and wiring have all been replaced. Furthermore, the bridge has been changed from a trapeze tailpiece to a stop tailpiece. There are also signs of filled holes, suggesting that this instrument has been heavily modified over time. The plastic saddles on the bridge were cracked, so we replaced them with new stock. The Kluson type tuning pegs however, appear to be original.
As the original specifications had been significantly altered, we chose to replace the nut, bridge, and saddles, along with undergoing a full refret, making it suitable for someone who wants to break it in. It is currently in a condition that would appeal to guitarists seeking comfortable playability. While it is very difficult to determine how much of the guitar is original and the exact year of manufacture, you will immediately notice the difference from current models when you play it. The specifications of the model year and almost 60 years of aging lend the guitar a woody, airy sound with a wonderful depth and richness. The pickups have a slightly higher output, with prominent highs. The narrow nut width makes it easy to play, and the neck has a unique and interesting feel with just the right thickness. The faded cherry color is also superb.
This is completely different from reissues that boast of offering a traditional semi-acoustic sound. Please take this opportunity to experience the authentic feel.
