Up for sale is my 1984 Gibson Les Paul Custom, a beautifully preserved and increasingly desirable example of Gibson’s innovative mid-1980s production. Finished in classic Ebony, this guitar features a factory specification that is seldom seen today: chrome hardware, cream plastics, a factory Gibson-branded Kahler tremolo, and factory Gibson flip-out Speed Winder tuners.
While most Les Paul Customs of the era were equipped with gold hardware, this uncommon chrome-equipped configuration gives the guitar a distinctive look while retaining everything that has made the Les Paul Custom one of Gibson’s flagship instruments.

Factory Gibson Kahler Tremolo
One of the defining features of this guitar is its original Gibson-branded Kahler tremolo. Unlike the aftermarket Kahlers commonly installed during the 1980s, this is the genuine factory-installed unit supplied by Gibson when the guitar was built.
The bridge is currently configured as a fixed bridge using genuine Kahler Cam Locking Clips sourced from Whammy Parts. This setup gives the guitar the solid feel, sustain, and tuning stability of a traditional stop-tail Les Paul while leaving the original Kahler completely intact.
Should the next owner prefer to use the tremolo, the locking clips can simply be removed, returning the bridge to full floating operation. No permanent modifications have been made to the instrument.
Condition
The guitar is in excellent vintage condition and has clearly been well cared for throughout its life. The finish retains a deep gloss, the binding has aged beautifully, and the chrome hardware presents very well. It shows only the honest signs of use you would expect from a well-preserved 40-year-old Gibson.
The neck is straight, the frets have plenty of life remaining, and the guitar plays effortlessly with low action. Tonally, it delivers everything you’d expect from a Les Paul Custom—rich sustain, articulate highs, strong mids, and exceptional clarity.
Why This One?
Factory Kahler Les Paul Customs have become increasingly collectible, and examples that retain their original Gibson-branded tremolo system are becoming harder to find. Add in the rare factory chrome hardware, cream plastics, and original Gibson Speed Winder tuners, and this represents one of the more unusual factory Les Paul Custom specifications of the era.
Whether you’re a collector of 1980s Gibsons or simply looking for an outstanding Les Paul Custom that stands apart from the crowd, this is a rare opportunity to own an authentic and highly original example.
