Up for sale is an incredibly unique piece of Gibson history: a first-run 1974-1975 Gibson Grabber Bass (Serial No. 406287).

This particular instrument features a beautifully smooth, lined fretless maple fingerboard. The lines are completely flush and smooth to the touch, offering the iconic, woody "mwah" and slide of a fretless combined with the aggressive, mid-forward growl these basses are famous for. Natural finish.

I am selling this for a friend, who is not a musician.  While researching the bass, I asked him about where he got it, etc.  He said that he bought it for his kids more than 40 years ago.He said that it was already fretless when he bought it.  Based on my research, it did not appear that Gibson made these fretless, but it is an original Grabber neck.  He said that the bass has sat in a closet for decades with no one playing it until he found it and decided to sell it.

I recently used this bass to record 2-3 tracks in the studio, and the raw, unprocessed direct-input (DI) sound is absolutely stellar. The electronics are pristine, dead quiet, and punchy.

Condition, Setup & Notes:

* **Electronics:** 100% original sliding humbucker on a clear lucite track. The sliding mechanism is fully functional and smooth. Pots and jack are relatively clean.

* **Neck & Playability:** The neck appears to be slightly convex and will require a truss rod adjustment to straighten it out.  Due to this, the action (string height) needs to be dialed in, particularly on the 3rd (A) string, which is sitting a bit low. Slight buzziness when fretting just past the nut.

* **Cosmetics:** Considerable ‘road’ wear consistent with a 50-year-old instrument. Minor surface dings and light finish wear, but completely structurally sound—does not appear to have headstock cracks or historic breaks.

This is a phenomenal studio weapon for producers or players looking for a rare, distinct vintage vibe that stands out in a mix.
