Professional Work Performed

All modifications and setup were completed by the experienced luthiers at The 12th Fret in Portland, Oregon.

PickupsBridge

  • Tom Anderson H3 Humbucker
  • Dedicated master volume

Neck

  • Seymour Duncan YJM Fury Strat Single Coil
  • Dedicated master volume

Each pickup is wired directly to the output jack with its own independent volume control for the shortest possible signal path, maximum clarity, and minimal signal loss.

To complement the custom build, clear pickup rings have been installed intentionally, revealing the copper shielding and internal wiring beneath. Rather than hiding the electronics, they showcase the craftsmanship and reinforce the industrial, machine-inspired aesthetic of the instrument.

Electronics

  • Complete copper shielding throughout the control cavities
  • Professionally wired
  • Extremely quiet operation
  • Independent master volume for each pickup

Hardware

  • New GraphTech custom nut
  • New Graphtech string trees
  • Professionally set up
  • Fresh Ernie Ball Papa Het's 72 Seasons Hardwired Master Core strings (.011–.050)

Tuners

Professionally upgraded with six Original Authentic Steinberger Gearless Barrel Tuners

  • Genuine NOS (New Old Stock)
  • 40:1 gear ratio
  • Originally acquired from Gibson years ago
  • Professionally installed
  • Exceptionally precise tuning
  • Outstanding tuning stability

These tuners are becoming increasingly difficult to source and are among the finest gearless tuners ever produced.

Finish

The guitar originally left the factory in metallic silver.

Prior to my ownership, only the body was refinished in satin black.

After inspecting the guitar, I chose to preserve the black finish because, as it naturally wears over time, the original metallic silver beneath will slowly reveal itself. The result is an evolving relic effect that gives the guitar the appearance of being machined from solid metal rather than simply painted.

The transparent pickup rings exposing the copper shielding continue this industrial design language, creating a cohesive aesthetic that celebrates the guitar's mechanical construction instead of concealing it.

Condition

Overall Very Good condition for a 40-year-old instrument.

  • Light scratches and small dings from normal use
  • Finish wear consistent with age
  • Fully functional
  • Professionally disassembled, inspected, cleaned, and reassembled
  • Fresh professional setup
  • Ready to play immediately

Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.

Why I Built It

My goal was to create a guitar that retained the unmistakable silhouette of the Roland G-707 while upgrading every aspect that matters to a modern player.

The boutique pickups, premium hardware, precision Steinberger tuners, exposed electronics, and black-over-silver finish all contribute to a cohesive industrial design that feels more like a custom shop build than a modified vintage instrument.

It's an incredibly inspiring guitar to play and unlike anything else you'll see on stage.

I had/have more mods I planned on but unfortunately have some bills that came up unexpected
