A very loud and great sounding 1948 D-18
From the Music City Vintage listing:
“A great example of a late 40's D-18, with all the punch that you could ask for. This guitar plays like a dream with rich sustain and lovely voice.”
The person I bought it from, on first playing it at Music City Vintage in Nashville, posted:
“I played an absolutely killer 1948 D-18 today that's for sale at a decent price. Compared to every other D-18 I've ever played, regardless of era, this one had the largest rounded C shape neck l've ever played. It has the narrower 1 11/16th but which I prefer, and the neck feels very similar (almost identical to my 1940's J-45.
It's probably one of the loudest, punchiest D-18's l've ever heard, which has to be partially because of this big chunky neck. I swear it sustained forever and sounded like a grand piano. Bear in mind, I played about 20 vintage Martins today in Nashville 40's/50's/60's era.
Sounded better than most of the D28's even.”
This player-grade D-18 has had a few repairs over its 78 year life
Neck reset, refret, new bridge and bridge plate. The back of the neck has been refinished. There are two identical small areas on either side of the back of the lower bout that are very slightly raised, noticeable only in the right light and at the right angle. Replaced tuners. Lastly, a very good headstock repair that is almost unnoticeable
No cracks but there is a small area on the bass side of the top near that binding where a spliced piece of spruce was inserted
The neck is a very beefy, full “C”
