For sale is a beautiful late-1970s Greco Les Paul Custom finished in Black, made in Japan by Fujigen.

This guitar appears to date from approximately 1976–1978, during the highly regarded pre-Super Real era. Although the exact catalog designation cannot be confirmed (likely an EG-500C or EG-600C), the instrument retains virtually all of its original components.

Features

  • Original Black Custom finish
  • Bolt-on maple neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard with block inlays
  • Multi-ply body and headstock binding
  • Original Greco engraved pickup covers
  • Original Maxon humbuckers (confirmed by MAXON stamp on the pickup baseplates)
  • Original Mitsumi potentiometers
  • Original wiring and capacitors
  • Original Greco hardware
  • Made in Japan neck plate

The electronics appear untouched, which is becoming increasingly uncommon on vintage Japanese guitars from this period.

The pickups are original Maxon-built humbuckers, manufactured by Nisshin Onpa for Greco. They deliver the warm, articulate vintage PAF-style tone that made these late-70s Grecos so desirable.

The truss rod cover features the engraved initials "H.S.", probably added decades ago by a previous owner. It is an interesting piece of the guitar's history but i am not sure is factory original, at least I could not find anything like this one.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition for its age.

The guitar shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with nearly 50 years of careful use but remains exceptionally clean overall. The electronics function properly, and the instrument plays comfortably with good action.

Additional Condition Notes

The truss rod functions properly and turns in both directions, allowing neck adjustments.

The guitar is currently set up in a comfortable, fully playable condition. Before shipping, it will receive a brand-new set of .009 strings and a basic setup. will be sent in a soft case carefully packed in a box with bubble wrap and plenty of cardboard, but if you prefer i could send it in a hard case but for a different price, subject to availability, please consult.

The frets appear to have approximately 70% life remaining by visual inspection. There is no fret buzz, no dead spots, and the guitar plays cleanly across the entire fingerboard.

Due to its age, a couple of the fingerboard inlays have experienced slight shrinkage, which is common on vintage Japanese instruments. They remain secure, with no lifting or movement, and this has no effect on playability.

The guitar could benefit from a thorough cosmetic cleaning. It appears to have spent many years in storage, and there is oxidation on most of the metal hardware, consistent with its age.

The output jack produces a slight crackle when the plug is moved. I have chosen not to replace the jack in order to preserve the guitar's originality. but still works fine.

Other than the points mentioned above, the guitar remains remarkably original, and all electronics function as intended. It plays great, sounds fantastic, and is an excellent example of a vintage Japanese Greco from the golden era of Fujigen production.

Please review all photos carefully, as they form an important part of the description. Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like additional photos or measurements.

Notes

  • No serial number present (common on some Greco models from this era).
  • Pickup bases are stamped MAXON, confirming original Japanese manufacture.
  • Neck pocket and pickup cavities show no evidence of later modifications.

If you're looking for an authentic vintage Japanese Les Paul from the golden era of Fujigen production, this is an outstanding example.
