PLEK'd by Mike Lull — A collector-grade Les Paul with genuine shop pedigree
Built Sept 2, 2000 at Gibson's Nashville factory, this 30th Anniversary Deluxe was made in a strictly limited run to honor the legendary 1969 original. It wears a beautiful carved figured maple top finished in gloss Wine Red nitrocellulose — a classic, understated look with real depth to the figuring.
In 2008, I personally brought this guitar to the shop of the late Mike Lull, who knew me from a prior custom bass purchase, for a full PLEK alignment and setup — one of the early jobs done on his then brand-new PLEK machine. I can't say with certainty whether Mike personally ran the machine and dialed in the final setup himself or whether it was handled by his technicians under his shop's standards, but I do know I handed the guitar to him directly. Either way, it left as a precision-set instrument.
Since then, it's been professionally set up at least twice more over the years (exact dates lost to memory), and it's been gigged exactly once — otherwise living as a lightly-played, well-cared-for studio piece.
Provenance & Paperwork: I bought this guitar used from the late, great A# Music in Kent, WA — a beloved local shop - gone but not forgotten. I'll include the original purchase receipt along with the receipt from Mike Lull's shop for the pickup and potentiometer work.
Why This One Stands Out
Boutique Pickup Swap — During its time at the shop, the guitar was upgraded with a vintage Bill Lawrence L500-series mini-humbucker in the bridge and a boutique Lindy Fralin mini-humbucker in the neck. Think vintage snarl meets glassy, articulate chime — a tonal palette factory.
⚖ 9.8 lbs — Solid, Full-Sustain Les Paul heft — right where you'd expect a Les Paul Deluxe to sit. No weight relief, no chambering — just solid mahogany and maple doing what they do.
Time Capsule Condition — Kept in a smoke-free environment, out of direct light and away from excess heat or moisture as long as I've had it. No finish checking, no cracks, no headstock repairs. Just minor dings and buckle rash that only show up when you examine them up close (or in iPhone photos).
Extras Galore — This isn't a bare guitar. It ships with:
The original factory bridge pickup (fully functional, full leads)
The original replaced potentiometer
The original cream pickguard with mounting hardware
Dunlop Straploks (original strap buttons included)
The original Gibson truss rod wrench
The original Gibson USA hardshell case (pink plush interior)
Receipts documenting original purchase and Mike Lull's shop work
!!! Matching padded-leather embroidered strap with Dunlop Straploks. Looks brown in the pic, but it's oxblood to match the guitar.
That's a small treasure chest of factory-original parts and paper trail alongside the shop upgrades
This guitar plays beautifully right now with low, comfortable action — but it's been a while since its last professional setup, so budget for a light bench visit and fresh strings to make it sing exactly to your taste.
The case is in good, solid condition, but does show some wear from a period when it was stored on its own while the guitar lived out on a stand — expect normal handling marks rather than pristine showroom condition. The metal loop for the combination lock is missing (combo was unknown), though the physical latch piece is included inside the case pocket.
Everything else is exactly as sharp as you'd hope from a guitar that's spent nearly two decades on a stand and played lightly.
