Here is a 2002 Gibson Custom Shop Class 5 Les Paul in Trans Amber finish. Includes the original Gibson Custom, Art & Historic hardshell case, CoA and accompanying paperwork. This is the only one in Trans Amber finish on Reverb at the time of listing! This particular guitar was originally exported to England. Back then, Gibson didn't have as many dealers abroad, and the guitars that were exported to that small number of select dealers were often particularly-nice examples. You sometimes see Gibson guitars marketed as "Yamano" exports (Yamano was their sole Japanese distributor at that time), and those often command a premium because of this (along with their rarity relative to US domestic guitars). The expectations for these guitars were high, and Gibson of course wanted themselves to be well-represented in growing markets. So, if you see a guitar that was originally exported to England or Japan, it's a very safe bet that it will be top notch. These were sometimes commissioned with specialized features, but even those with typical features would've most likely been allocated high grades of wood, and given some extra attention!

This guitar has a great top with tight grain, which is nicely-complimented by the Trans Amber finish. The flame is asymmetrical and not super-heavy, but quite interesting, and very active. The back is nice as well, and even has a little hint of Birdseye figuring in it, which is very uncommon to see in mahogany. The rosewood board is dark and chocolatey, which always contrasts well against an Amber finish. This guitar weighs in at a very comfy 8.9 lb and is well-balanced, both when standing or sitting. It has a slim-medium C neck profile which feels great and is easy to get around on. This guitar has great acoustic resonance and projection, and the pickups amplify that nicely. The amount of sustain when plugged in is ridiculous, even when played at a very low volume with a clean amp! The pickups are the Burstbucker 2 & 3 set, which are PAF-voiced, but a little hotter to my ears. The neck pickup is very full-bodied, and the bridge pickup is thick and powerful. They're both clear and well-balanced with eachother, both in volume and tone. A standout feature, other than the phenomenal amount of sustain, is that chirpy, snappy character that not a lot of Les Pauls have. You know exactly what I mean if you've played one like that, or have been hunting for one! It's touch-sensitive and really responds to your pick attack. The setup is dialed in with '10s for low, comfy action and effortless playability. Here are some highlights:

  • All-original with original case, CoA and accompanying paperwork.
  • Clean condition with very little play wear. Trans Amber finish.
  • 8.9 lb.
  • Long neck tenon.
  • Slim-medium C neck profile, w/ depth measurements of .80" and .89" @ the 1st and 12th frets.
  • Burstbucker 2 & 3 pickups w/ M-69 pickup rings.
  • Dark rosewood board w/ a 12" fretboard radius and medium frets.

Condition: This guitar is in all-original, exceptionally-clean condition. It shows very little play wear and general use overall, which is impressive for its age! These guitars left Gibson Custom Shop without a pickguard installed, and this one remains that way. A nice bonus for those who prefer that look! The frets show some very light wear throughout, but no divots. They're nearly full height still, and feel nice and smooth to play on. There are some very minor surface-level scratches and light, pinhead-sized indentations on the body here and there, but nothing that I'd consider notable. No deep scratches or noticeable nicks/dings. The jack plate/surround and control cavity cover each show a tiny, hairline crack, which is purely cosmetic, having no bearing on functionality. Other than that, I can't find anything else worth making specific mention of. It's easy to tell that this guitar has been well-maintained and taken great care of since new. This is truly a standout Class 5 Les Paul, and the next owner will thoroughly enjoy it!

*Note - Upon receiving the guitar, please let it acclimate to room temperature before opening the case and removing it. It's especially important with nitro-finished guitars to prevent lacquer checking/cracking. As always, when a guitar is being shipped to an area with a different climate, it's best to let it settle in for a few days before having any necessary setup adjustments made (if any) by a competent tech to fit your personal preference.

Please message me with any questions or concerns before submitting offers and/or payment and I will be happy to help. This guitar will be packaged extremely well using a heavy duty box and plenty of packing material to ensure it's safety during transit. It will also be insured for the full value. Signature required upon delivery. Sold as-is, no returns. Thank you!
