• Design & Scale: It features an ultra-short 18-inch scale length (roughly half the size of a standard bass), a solid agathis wood body, and a fretless fingerboard with painted markers.
• The "Korean" Upgrades: The Korean-made DeArmond versions are widely considered superior to the original 1980s US Guild models because they replaced the frustrating friction pegs with geared tuning keys and upgraded the piezo bridge pickup.
• The Sound: Despite weighing only two pounds, its active preamp and patented Ashworth transducer mimic the deep, acoustic, pillowy thump of a plucked upright double bass.
• The Strings: Traditionally equipped with thick silicone rubber strings. Many modern players swap the stock silicone for Aquila Thundergut strings because they stay in tune better and do not require talcum powder to stop your fingers from sticking.
