Yamaha TX816 — Complete 8-Module FM Synth System w/ Original Yamaha PSU + Fresh Batteries

For sale is my Yamaha TX816, one of the most powerful and collectible hardware FM synthesizer systems Yamaha ever made.

This is not just a rackmount DX7. The TX816 is essentially eight independent Yamaha TF1 FM synthesizer modules housed in one professional Yamaha rack chassis. Each TF1 is based on the classic six-operator FM architecture, giving you massive layering, multitimbral sequencing, electric pianos, bells, metallic percussion, glassy pads, basses, leads, synthetic winds, and complex digital textures that still cut through a mix beautifully.

This unit includes:

Yamaha TX816 rack chassis

All eight TF1 modules installed

Original Yamaha PSU / power supply

Fresh batteries replaced in every module

The replaced batteries are an important maintenance point. These units are old enough that dead or leaking batteries can become a real problem, so having fresh batteries installed across all eight modules saves the next owner a major service headache.

Each TF1 can operate independently, making the TX816 a serious multitimbral FM monster. You can layer modules for huge composite sounds, split them across a sequencer, or route each module separately through its own balanced XLR output for proper studio processing.

That is where this machine really shines. Eight separate FM engines means you can send each part to its own mixer or interface channel and process them individually with EQ, compression, saturation, chorus, delay, reverb, pitch effects, gating, or aux sends. It is modular digital synthesis with real studio routing power.

The TX816 is especially strong for:

Classic and experimental FM electric pianos

Layered DX-style bells and mallets

Metallic percussion

Digital brass and synthetic winds

Glassy pads and evolving textures

Sequenced multitimbral FM arrangements

Studio routing with separate processing per module

Condition is used/vintage. Expect normal signs of age consistent with a professional rack synth of this era. Please review photos carefully. Sold as-is due to age.

This is a serious piece for someone who understands what it is: a complete modular Yamaha FM system with all eight TF1 modules installed, the original Yamaha PSU included, and fresh batteries already replaced across the full unit.
