Up for consideration is this exceptionally clean, all-original 1994 Fender Japan Jazzmaster (JM66-RC). An extremely rare example—one of approximately 120 ever produced—it is finished in stunning Shoreline Gold with a matching headstock and rosewood fretboard. Widely regarded as one of the most visually striking offset models ever produced by Fender Japan, this guitar is as collectible as it is beautiful.
Built at the FujiGen factory as part of a very limited 1994-only run, this model represents one of Fender Japan’s earliest and most collectible takes on the classic ‘62 reissue Jazzmaster.
Built to vintage spec, it features a 7.25" radius rosewood fingerboard, comfortable “C”-profile neck, and vintage-style frets. The original Japanese Jazzmaster pickups deliver the signature tone — articulate, clear, and chimey with a rich low end and smooth top-end presence. Like all FujiGen-built Fenders, it demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship, rivalling American-made examples in every respect.
Condition-wise, this is superbly preserved, showing only light play-wear, through very faint surface marks and an indent at the peak of the headstock (pictured). The finish has aged gracefully, and there are no breaks, repairs, or modifications. The frets are in great shape, and all electronics are completely original and work flawlessly. There is discolouration to the plastics and pickup covers, synonymous with this era of Fender Japan Jazzmasters, adding a touch of vintage aesthetic.
Highly collectible and increasingly difficult to source — even in Japan — these Shoreline Gold Jazzmasters hold a special place among Fender Japan’s most desirable limited-run instruments.
