Gibson / 1955 J-45

The Gibson J-45 was introduced in 1954 as a round-shoulder model following the J-35.

Since its introduction, while undergoing changes to specifications such as the logo, headstock shape, rosette, and bridge, it has consistently remained a highly popular model at the forefront of the music scene and is still used by many artists today.

—The large pickguard that became the iconic symbol of the J-45

The small pickguard with a brown tortoiseshell pattern (some also had a fire stripe pattern), which had been used since 1954, was changed to a larger pickguard around this time.

Many people probably associate the J-45 with this pickguard.

—Bridge Plate

A bridge plate, which serves as reinforcement, is glued to the underside of the bridge inside the body. However, a subtle change in specifications is that the size differs between 1955 and 1956.

*The 1955 model uses a slightly thinner bridge plate.

From 1956 until 1960, when adjustable bridges became standard, a common bridge plate was used.

This may result in differences in tone!

Besides these visible specification changes, there are also hidden specification changes in the internal structure depending on the year.

This guitar boasts the popular specifications of a J-45.

While it shows signs of extensive use in numerous performances, including repairs to the soundhole damage and cracks, its appearance reflects the careful repairs it has received while producing that distinctively Gibson, almost wild, sound.

- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) on the upper right of the soundhole (along the pickguard).
- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) on the upper left of the soundhole.
- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) on the lower right of the soundhole.
- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) in two places on the lower part of the pickguard.
- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) in three places on the lower right of the body top.
- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) in two places on the lower left center of the body top.
- Crack repair (glued) in one place on the left waist of the body top.
- A step is visible between the body top binding and the side wood (from the right waist to the bottom), but there is no problem with the strength.
- A step is visible between the body top binding and the side wood (from the left waist to the bottom), but there is no problem with the strength.
- Crack repair (glued) on the left center of the body back.
- Crack repair (patch reinforcement) on the lower right side of the body back.

- Crack reinforcement (glued) on the lower left side of the body back.

- Over-lacquering of the entire body due to crack repair.

- Bridge area has been sanded down.

- Strap pin added to the back of the neck heel.

- Touch-up due to paint peeling on the lower left of the headstock top.

- Neck has been over-lacquered.

[Playing Condition]
- String height at 12th fret: 2.2mm on the 6th string side, 1.9mm on the 1st string side
- Saddle protrusion: Approximately 1.5mm to 2.0mm
- No buzzing or dead spots; playing condition is good.
