Up for sale is a beautiful 1988 Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Bass. The neck pocket is factory-stamped "REDT Jan 7 1988," confirming production date and factory desirable Translucent Red finish. Body is single piece Ash with nice grain and full maple neck has the nice figuring typical of this period.

This bass features the legendary combination that players and vintage collectors hunt for: the early 4-bolt neck plate and the classic 3-knob, 2-band EQ (Volume, Treble, Bass) configuration. This specific era delivers that iconic, raw, punchy growl and slap tone that made the StingRay famous.

Electronics & Originality:

  • Preamp Upgrade: The electronics have been upgraded to a premium, period-correct Mojotone MM Clone V2. This boutique board is a 1:1 exact component replica of Leo Fender's classic 2-band circuit. It is built with custom-tapered vintage pots and the rare, original LM4250CN IC chip for 100% authentic vintage tone with modern reliability.
  • Originality: the original factory stock circuit board was safely preserved and is included in the sale. This allows the next owner to enjoy flawless, noise-free performance today while retaining 100% of the instrument's long-term vintage collector value.
  • Pickup: The original late-1980s factory humbucker pickup is untouched and original to the bass.

Condition Note:

  • Neck & Frets: Absolutely excellent condition. The neck is straight, and the frets have plenty of life with no dead spots, deep divots, or buzzing. It offers low, fast action.
  • Body: Shows honest, vintage character from nearly 40 years of love. There is buckle rash on the back that has not broken through the translucent red finish, along with typical small surface dings and about a half-dozen small paint chips along the edges.
  • Structure: No deep wood gouges, extra drilled holes, cracks, or structural issues whatsoever. A rock-solid player's vintage machine.

Case: Ships safely in a premium, period-correct vintage black Tolex hardwood hardshell case with a striking blue velour interior that complements the translucent red finish beautifully. (Note: This is a premium aftermarket case, not the factory Music Man branded case).

Shipping & Setup:The bass will be professionally packed with the strings slacked and the headstock securely supported to prevent any movement in transit. Fully insured shipping via Reverb Safe Shipping.

Flat-rate shipping is $120 to cover a heavy-duty bass box, professional packing materials, and full Reverb Safe Shipping insurance. If you live regionally and the actual shipping label cost ends up being significantly less, I will gladly refund you the exact cash difference immediately after printing the label.
