This is a beautiful and exceptionally well-preserved 1966 Fender Mustang in its original Dakota Red finish. It is in outstanding overall condition, with only a handful of small dings and scratches—considerably fewer than you would expect to find on a nearly 60-year-old instrument. It is an excellent example for both players and collectors.

The neck is straight, comfortable, and clean, with the maple having developed a gorgeous amber patina over the decades. The original vintage frets still have plenty of life remaining, and the guitar is currently set up with low, comfortable action that makes it an absolute joy to play.

The guitar retains its original tremolo arm and bridge cover, both of which are frequently missing on vintage Mustangs.

The only non-original parts are the two pickup selector slider switches. The original switches eventually became unreliable—a common issue on vintage Mustangs—so they were replaced with correct-spec Switchcraft sliders. I've included photos showing the pickup winding dates (9/20/66) as well as the original CTS potentiometers with their 1966 date codes.

One thing worth noting: the slider switch controlling the bridge pickup has a minor issue. When the switch is in the position closest to the bridge, that particular switching option cuts out. The guitar still functions in the standard bridge-only setting, the bridge/neck combination, and one of the out-of-phase settings. The only sound that is unavailable is one of the out-of-phase combinations. This appears to be nothing more than a simple solder joint that needs to be touched up, but since I rarely use that setting, I have chosen not to disturb it.

The original hardshell case is included, complete with its desirable sharkskin exterior and vibrant orange interior. All latches function properly.

Overall, this is a wonderfully preserved, honest 1966 Mustang from Fender's golden era—an inspiring player, an increasingly collectible vintage instrument, and one that is becoming harder to find in this level of originality and condition.
