The Roland SR-JV80-17 Country Collection is a specialized expansion board for Roland's JV- and XP-series synthesizers, created specifically for authentic country, bluegrass, Americana, western swing, and folk music. Unlike broader expansion boards such as Vintage Synth or Session, the Country Collection focuses almost exclusively on realistic acoustic and electric instruments commonly heard in American country music. It was developed in collaboration with Sampleheads, whose high-quality sample libraries were well known in professional studios.

Highlights

  • 247 new PCM waveforms
  • 256 preset patches
  • 8 MB PCM ROM dedicated entirely to country-oriented instruments and phrases
  • Designed for both studio production and live performance

Instrument collection

The board features an impressive selection of carefully sampled instruments, including:

  • Steel-string acoustic guitars
  • Fingerpicked acoustic guitars
  • 12-string acoustic guitars
  • Resonator (Dobro) guitars
  • Pedal steel guitars
  • Telecaster-style electric guitars
  • Stratocaster-style electric guitars
  • Gibson ES-335-style guitars

  • Fiddles
  • Bouzouki
  • Wash-tub bass
  • Natural acoustic drum kits and percussion

Roland also included numerous guitar articulations such as muted picking, slides, harmonics, tremolo, velocity switching, and phrase samples, making performances much more realistic than typical ROMplers of the era.

The Country Collection excels at:

  • Fingerstyle acoustic guitar
  • Bluegrass banjo
  • Expressive pedal steel
  • Country fiddle
  • Mandolin accompaniment
  • Clean electric guitar

One of its strongest features is the exceptionally detailed collection of clean electric guitar sounds, especially Telecaster-inspired patches that respond naturally to velocity and performance dynamics.

  • Banjo Phrases
  • Guitar Phrases
  • Real Acoustic Guitar
  • Resonator Guitar

  • Highly expressive pedal steel sounds
  • Excellent realism for country and bluegrass arrangements
