DESCRIPTION

Originally special ordered from Schilke in a factory raw brass finish, this Schilke 1040 FL Professional Bb Flugelhorn is a beautiful example of one of the finest American-made flugelhorns available. Handcrafted in Chicago, Illinois, it combines Schilke’s legendary craftsmanship with exceptional intonation, effortless response, and the warm, rich sound that has made the 1040 FL a favorite among professional performers.

Unlike the standard lacquered or silver-plated models, this raw brass instrument has begun to develop a beautiful natural patina, giving it a unique appearance while preserving the outstanding playing characteristics Schilke is known for.

This horn plays exceptionally well with smooth valves, excellent compression, and outstanding intonation throughout the entire range.

CONDITION

Mint condition.

This flugelhorn has been exceptionally well cared for and is in outstanding condition. Valves are fast and smooth with excellent compression, and all slides move freely.

Because this instrument was originally ordered in factory raw brass, it has naturally begun to develop a light patina over time. The slight color variation visible in the photos—primarily where the right hand contacts the bell—is simply the natural oxidation of unfinished brass and is not wear, corrosion, or damage.

If desired, the raw brass can easily be polished back to its original bright luster, or it can be left to continue developing the rich character and patina that many players and collectors appreciate.

Some photos were taken using a white light box for lighting. This can create reflections that may make the bell or body appear wavy, warped, or distorted in certain areas. This is only a reflection effect from the lighting and not a defect. The instrument itself is structurally sound and not warped or damaged.
