Gibson L-5s have long been considered the holy grail of jazz guitars; they’re virtually impossible to find these days and are now only built by Gibson on a made-to-order basis. That’s why we’re all the more excited to offer you this very special example! It’s from the highly sought-after Gibson Custom, Art & Historic series—and to top it off, it’s a Master Label James Hutchins… you can’t get any better than this with an L-5! It’s one of those guitars you’ll never want to put down. I’ve rarely experienced such a dreamy tone from a jazz guitar—it’s absolutely mesmerizing. An incredible, warm, pleasant, full jazz sound with superb responsiveness. The guitar always delivers a very nuanced tone, and even with the neck pickup, nothing sounds muddy. On top of the dreamy sound comes dreamy playability. The action is perfect, and the comfortable medium-to-slightly-stiff neck fits perfectly in your hand. The frets are in top condition. As for the woods, one can only speak in superlatives. The flamed maple back is a visual stunner, just like the neck. The spruce top has an incredibly tight grain. In a few spots, this L-5 already has the slight hairline cracks in the finish (weather checking) that you’d pay a lot of money for at Murphy’s. Otherwise, it’s in top condition and comes with my warmest recommendation for anyone who wants the Rolls-Royce of jazz guitars in prime condition. Unfortunately, the pickguard is missing, but it can of course be replaced at any time. I’m off to play again....
