About This Model

The MOTU 896 is a FireWire audio interface built around eight analogue inputs on Neutrik combo connectors (XLR or quarter-inch jack) and eight analogue outputs on XLR, making it a capable centrepiece for a mid-sized recording setup. It supports 18 simultaneous channels at 44.1 or 48 kHz, with 24-bit conversion — 64x oversampling on the analogue inputs and 128x on the outputs — and extends to 88.2 and 96 kHz for two-channel high-resolution work. Digital connectivity covers AES-EBU in and out with built-in sample-rate conversion, plus ADAT optical I/O and word clock, giving it strong integration with external converters and digital gear. The front panel features 10-segment LED meters with peak and clip-hold indicators, and the onboard CueMix system allows direct input-to-output monitoring with zero latency, independent of the host computer. A second FireWire port enables daisy-chaining of up to four units for expanded I/O.
