It is an authentic Black Mountain Instruments model (sourced out of California) that was shipped as a premium tonewood kit to Kentucky, where Horace Brown personally assembled, glued, bound, and varnished it in December 1980. The stamp shows "801 Pleasant" (Pleasant View / Pleasant Hill area), which was the exact location of Horace Brown’s residence and workshop just up the road from his main crossroads gift shop. The Model: Based on the dimensions and round soundholes, this is a vintage Black Mountain Model 58. These kits were famous for using solid cedar or spruce tops with premium cherry or walnut bodies.The Exact Date: The handwriting confirms it was completed in Dec 1980, right before the winter holidays. Horace Brown passed away in 1981.
