VICTOR SG-18 - JAPAN 1964-66 - SUNBURST ***VERY RARE*** w/HSC
Heeeeere's Nipper!
JVC's (the Victor Company of Japan) effort to ride the mighty 60s guitar wave which was sweeping Japan (and elsewhere) at the time.
This is the Victor SG-18 from around 1965 - complete with HMV's famous cross-breed terrier, Nipper, on the headstock badge.
JVC's SG guitars were produced for only two years between 1964 and 1966.
Making this a very rare survivor from JVC's brief flirtation with guitar production.
Condition-wise...
Very good. A few minor cosmetic blemishes but overall, it's in great shape. (see photos)
The details and finishing on these Victor SGs is sublime.
JVC probably had this rare long body shape specially designed for them, with bodies and necks made at the legendary Matsumoku plant.
The unique chrome scratch plate and electronics are JVC's and what make the guitar's design so distinctive. This has no heavy scratches but is pitted. (See photos)
Only the vibrato arm is non-original. There is a chrome clip-on bridge cover (pictured) which looks original but is essentially decorative.
The neck is in good shape, frets good. The unusual timber dot position markers in the fretboard are a very cool touch.
Original tuners work very well. Action is good, choke-free and fast. Intonation is good. Strings are new.
JVC's electronics - switches, the jack, the metal braided wiring and these tall, single coil covered pickups are very high quality and in excellent shape.
The pickups are not super high power but combined with the switching options here, the SG-18 in particular has an extremely versatile sound palette.
Super vintage sounds that offer a wide range of tones from garage raunchy to jazz smooth.
In Summary...
Unquestionably one of the most stunning guitar designs ever.
This is a rare slice of Golden-era Japanese guitar history - it plays and sounds as beautiful as it looks.
Comes complete with a vintage hard (bass) case. (Pictured)

A Note On Shipping:
We want you to be fully satisfied with everything - from the item itself (naturally!) through the shipping, packaging, communication etc.
Of course there is nothing we can do about customs duty, local taxes etc at your end. But we can keep the overall price as competitive as is decently possible.
The Japan post office service (EMS) is reliable and efficient but shipping costs from Japan to Europe or the states are unavoidably expensive.
For this reason none of the shipping costs we quote reflect the actual price we have to pay. We are more than willing to take a hit on that to make things as attractive for you as possible.

Vintage Instruments & Equipment
Shipping by air plus climatic changes can affect how a guitar is set up - no matter how well it is packed. Consequently there is no guarantee that an instrument arrives with exactly the same set up as stated. After a period of acclimatisation, you may still need to make any adjustments at your own expense.
