While we've come to consider Alnico 5 the gold standard, I have a lot of guitars with a wide array of ceramic and Alnico magnet based pickups. I'm a symphonic shredder and an electronics engineer, so my standards are unusually high. With ceramic, I use a 750K ohm resistor in parallel with a 2.2 nF capacitor running from the pickup selector switch's output lug to ground. With this in place, it makes ceramic indiscernible from Alnico 5 by rolling off some of the low end and top end of the bandwidth, and the results are nothing short of miraculous.
