GUYATONE SG-42 (335) *RARE* - 1974 - w/HSC - BEAUTIFUL MATSUMOKU MAXON BUILD

This model appears only in the Guyatone catalogues for 1974.

It's a very high quality, all-original and very rare Matsumoku-built semi-hollow body 335 with Maxon humbuckers.

Not to be confused with the SG-42T (Rickenbacker-style) model, information about these is sparse.

What we do know is it comes after the SG-28 (bolt-on neck) model from the early 70s and that it directly precedes the slightly modified Guyatone SG-52 set neck model (introduced 1975-76).

Build-wise this is certainly on a par with the Matsumoku Grecos and Arias of the period in terms of production quality, finish and sound.

Overall, this has a luxurious quality which the photos hopefully do justice to.

It's absolutely stunning.

Condition-wise...

Excellent. Barely a blemish. (See photos)

Set neck construction and a fully bound body, neck & head.

The fretboard is in fantastic shape and the frets have minimal wear. This has been played sparingly.

All-original and high quality appointments. Original bridge, tailpiece, controls, tuners etc.

Twin Maxon humbucker pickups dated 1974.

Some seriously great vintage tones from these boys.

It plays beautifully, action is fast and low and the intonation is spot-on.

In Summary...

This lad really is something of a rarity since production was so short-lived.

Overall, the finishing is exquisite. Condition is close to immaculate and it plays and sounds gorgeous.

A very high quality 1970s 335 which could almost have just left the Matsumoku plant.

A super rare gem!
