Steve's Notes: This is a really nice example of a rare and quite innovative drum for the era. The WFL Twin Strainer model debuted in the late 1930s and had two separate strainers, each with different snares. The drum we have has 6 strand cable and 10 strand wire. The unique strainer configuration was quite a bit ahead of its time. These days orchestral snares have as many as 5 different strainer levers, each with different snares, which allows a multitude of sound of options within the same snare. But, back during the 40s this was quite unique. The twin strainers allow you to select either set of snares, or both together. So, you get three uniquely different sounds. I have an example of this model in my personal collection and love it. This drum is in nice shape with some plating loss on one rim, and some dimpling on lug plating, but nothing out of the ordinary after almost 90 years. A great example of a truly innovative concept and a very playable drum.
