Vintage Gemeinhardt M2S Solid Silver Intermediate/Semi-Pro Flute.

This flute has a solid silver head and body, closed hole keys, offset-G, and C foot. When it was released, the Gemeinhardt M2S was designed to offer entry/semi pro flute options in a closed hole design, similar to Haynes and Powell commercial models, the Artley Wilkins, and the Armstrong Model 90. It was extremely popular among doublers and pit musicians looking for a great, easy playing closed hole flute with pro features. Gemeinhardt is a long established American flute maker with a reputation for good quality instruments.  The model M2S has become something of a niche collector’s item for doublers and Gemeinhardt enthusiast, and is rarely seen in this condition (or with the M2S stamp rather than just “2S”).

This flute has been professionally owned and maintained, and was previously owned by a now retired doubler/jazz musician. The instrument shows only very light signs of normal use and surface wear for a vintage instrument. It has been exceptionally well cared for .The flute is 9+ out of 10 cosmetically.

The flute was just fully serviced by the extremely well respected woodwind tech, John Butler. The quality of his work is very apparent in this instrument. The flute was completely disassembled, cleaned, polished, sanitized, reassembled, adjusted and tested. The flute is playing exceptionally well from top to bottom. It plays very easily with a warm, full mellow sound. Great fluid feel to the mechanism. Very easy, pleasant high register and a great scale. The pads and bumpers are newer and look great, with many years left. Some pads are brand new, and were replaced with Smith Gold Pads. The flute is playing exceptionally well.

The flute comes in the original leather covered Geneinhardt attaché case with the original cleaning rod. The case is in excellent structural condition for its age. The inside is clean and odor free, and protects the flute well. The outside shows some wear to the leather covering from storage, primarily to the trim edges and the trim stitching. The left latch is intact, but does not fully latch and needs adjustment. I did not replace it in order to keep it original. A an additional, modern, backup Gemeinhardt plastic case can be included with purchase at the buyer’s request.

This would make a perfect instrument for a pro doubler, pit musician, or serious amateur looking for a closed hole solid silver flute. It also stands as a great collectors item for an Gemeinhardt flute enthusiast - it’s difficult to find a model M2S in this condition, with the M2S stamp. The current MSRP for a new solid silver flute from a comparable brand/model (for example Armstrong) is over $2,029.00 and rising.
