Not many instruments can be described as truly innovative - and while production in recent years has been dominated by multiscales, fanned frets, headless and the like, none of the aforementioned have quite the amount of tonal options as the guitar we will be looking at today - the US-made James Tyler Variax.

This swiss army knife of a guitar features an alder body with a bolt on 1-piece maple neck. The neck is fitted with a maple fretboard, which comes equipped with 22 jumbo nickel frets. The hardware is chrome, and encompasses the Hipshot open gear locking tuners, the James Tyler-branded tremolo bridge with L.R. Baggs Piezo saddles, and the control knobs. The electronics department features three pickups in a H/S/S configuration, and that’s where all the magic happens - what would be the first tone knob in a Stratocaster has been morphed into the guitar model control - which imitates various famous models, such as the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Les Paul, ES-330, Gretsch Duo Jet or even the Rickenbacker 370, to name but a few. But it doesn’t end there! Towards the higher fin of the guitar, we will find a built-in rotary switch, which allows you to change tunings on the fly! E Standard, Drop D, drop C#, Eb Standard or maybe even open D? The choice is yours to make.

The guitar is used, but in great condition. The main defect is the finish cracking in the neck pocket area, however this is common with S-shaped models. There are minor scratches on the pickguard, nothing out of the ordinary for a used guitar.
