The Legacy

Introduced in 1969, the LA-3A was designed as the solid-state successor to the venerable LA-2A. It utilizes the exact same T4 electro-optical attenuator that gives the LA-2A its musical, program-dependent compression, but marries it to discrete, Class-A solid-state circuitry.

The result is a compressor with a slightly faster attack and release characteristic than its tube counterpart, delivering a famously aggressive, "in-your-face" transient response. While the LA-2A is smooth and syrupy, the LA-3A is punchy and tight. It remains the absolute gold standard for tracking rock and pop vocals, guitars, and snare drums in top-tier facilities worldwide.
