Vox Wah-Wah – c. 1969–1971 Italy – "trash can" inductor

An early Italian-made Vox Wah-Wah, built by Jen in Pescara for Vox, from the period when the circuit used the cylindrical metal-can inductor nicknamed the "trash can". These early Italian Vox wahs are the European counterpart of the V846 and are known for their thick, vocal sweep.

MODEL & AGE

• Bottom plate: "VOX WAH-WAH" with serial number sticker SER No 24989 and the battery instructions; a "TRASHCAN" sticker has been added to identify the inductor
• Chrome treadle with the large VOX logo, VOX logo on the front of the base
• Made in Italy; approx. 1969–1971, judging by the metal-can inductor, board and capacitors

INSIDE (see photos)

• Metal-can ("trash can") inductor marked "500"
• Grey box film capacitors, green and silver tubular capacitors, carbon resistors and TO-92 transistors on the original brown board
• Potentiometer with gear and rack, rectangular footswitch
• Input and output jacks; runs on a 9V battery (no DC socket)
• This is a wah only (no volume function)

CONDITION

• Fully working: wah sweep and switch work as they should
• Chrome on the treadle is worn and pitted in places (see photos); black crackle base with light wear
• Bottom plate with scratches, rubber feet present
• Some dust and surface oxidation inside, normal for a pedal over 50 years old
