I bought this new in Sept. 1992. It’s been played. It’s been recorded. It’s been modified … but not too much and to the benefit of the guitar.
Some would say Ace Frehley mod, but not so...
The pickups are all Gibson. The neck and the bridge are original to the guitar. The middle is a Gibson 490T and is wired independently of the others.
How does it work? When the switch is in the middle position, the neck and bridge are engaged. By pulling up on the bridge volume knob it turns those pickups off and engages the middle, as a humbucker. If you pull up on the bridge tone knob it splits the coils on the middle pickup. It’s a really cool effect.
Regardless, buyer can have it rewired to however they like. This has worked for me for 30+ years.
I'm told this is one of the "good wood" Gibson Les Pauls ... and I agree. It's stable, it's resonant and it sustains. Original frets are in great shape (see photos). You can hear it at the link below, recorded directly into a JCM900 1/2 stack... it appeared on all of the Mary Me recordings from 1994-1996:
- Color: Tobacco Sunburst
- Year of Manufacture: 1992
- Pickups: Passive
- Pickup Configuration: HHH
- Body Material: Maple Top/Mahogany Back
