The iconic black-panel Fender Deluxe was made as both a Reverb model and this slightly stripped-down non-Reverb model, without the onboard effect and its related circuitry. They features the same two-channel layout, one "normal", one "vibrato" with two instrument inputs on each. A dual 6V6-power section into a 12" speaker puts out around 18-20 watts of power, just like its Reverb-equipped sibling.

The only substantial difference between the two is in the absence of the Reverb circuit there's a bit less preamp gain, yielding slightly "cleaner" headroom overall and a stronger/bolder tone with less over-the-top fizz as some Reverb models tend to exhibit when run full out. The amp can be thought of as the "normal" channel of the Deluxe Reverb, with its first channel actually somewhat hotter than the "vibrato" channel. These are truly excellent gigging amplifiers still and a perfect choice for those who tend to use this type of amp as a pedal platform!



Height is 17 1/4 in. (43.8 cm.), 21 3/4 in. (55.2 cm.) width, and 9 1/2 in. (24.1 cm.) deep.

This great-sounding pre-CBS Deluxe remains in great shape overall. The tube chart code is sadly missing, but the fairly low serial number dates the amp to 1964. The black Tolex is very clean, showing only minor wear. The back panel sadly has a small hole cut out fairly crudely, presumably at one point for an extension speaker out. The grille cloth nice and clean and in good shape, save for one hole in the lower corner and some tearing near the control panel. It retains the plastic Fender logo and the chassis straps and hardware show hardly any sings of corrosion. The front control panel is beautifully clean and mostly free of wear with all the stenciled lettering intact. The amp retains its original tremolo footswitch and comes with a newer padded cover as well.

Electrically, the amp is mostly original; the speaker is a newer replacement 12" Celestion G12 'Vintage 30', a hefty but great-sounding compliment for this amp. The power, choke and output transformers are original and are marked 606-313, 606-408 and 606-410, dating them to the 13th week of 1963 and the 8th and 10th weeks of 1964, respectively. Visible pot codes date to early '64 as well. The amp has received our typical maintenance and servicing, including replacement of all electrolytic capacitors, a grounded 3-prong power cord installed and cleaning of all sockets, pots and jacks and biased to spec.

Overall this is a really clean, great sounding example of a the iconic black panel Deluxe; bring your own choice of delay and/or reverb, or just dare to wind it up dry for the most natural sting! Very Good + Condition.
