ABOUT:

The AKAI GX-230D features a newly developed AC servo motor designed for direct capstan drive, delivering exceptional speed accuracy and long-term stability. This advanced motor incorporates 114 precision gears on both the rotor and stator sides. A built-in detector coil and magnet on the stator enable an innovative pulse detection system.

Unlike conventional systems that detect every pulse, this design performs detection once every 114 pulses, significantly increasing pulse output efficiency and improving overall rotational stability. Compared to traditional DC servo motors with magnetic braking systems, this AC servo design offers a simpler construction, eliminates excess heat generation, and greatly reduces ripple caused by mechanical eccentricity.

The deck is equipped with dedicated GX (Glass & Crystal Ferrite) heads—one forward/reverse playback head and one combination record/erase head. These GX heads are renowned for their extreme durability, extended lifespan, wider dynamic range, and excellent signal-to-noise performance, ensuring consistent, high-quality analog sound over time.

For reference, the GX-230 model shares the same core engineering and performance features as the GX-230D, but includes an integrated speaker output jack for direct playback convenience.
