Introduced in 1955 as a step-up from the Les Paul Junior, the Les Paul Special has long been a go-to choice for players who crave simplicity without sacrificing tonal character. Its slab mahogany body, wraparound bridge, and unmistakable P-90 growl helped define the sound of early rock and roll, later becoming a staple in blues, punk, garage rock, and indie-alternative music. Decades later, the Les Paul Special continues to deliver that same raw, unfiltered voice: Direct, dynamic, and unapologetically expressive.

While its aesthetic remains rooted in Gibson’s Golden Era, the modern Les Paul Special features subtle refinements that make it a joy to play. The 50s Vintage mahogany neck carve fills the hand without feeling bulky, and the 12" radius rosewood fretboard provides a smooth, balanced playing surface for everything from sliding double-stops to wide interval bends. Plugged in, the dual P-90 pickups offer a spectrum of tones that range from snarling leads and percussive rhythm work to warm, soulful cleans. Their natural midrange push ensures your sound cuts through the mix, especially in dense band settings.

Whether you’re drawn to its heritage, its straightforward control layout, or its unmistakable attitude, the Les Paul Special stands as one of Gibson’s most iconic no-frills designs. Available now at Haggerty’s Music, this guitar is a workhorse that excels on stage, in the studio, or at home; perfect for players who want vintage flavor, rock-solid reliability, and that unmistakable P-90 punch.
