1968 Gibson SG Junior, Sparkling Burgundy

A superb and very rare 1968 Gibson SG Junior, finished in its original Sparkling Burgundy and presented in exceptionally clean, 100% original condition complete with its original black card case and Gibson hang tag.

Sparkling Burgundy is really great colour and on an SG Junior it is particularly uncommon so finding one this clean and with its original case and hang tag is a real treat!

As a late-’60s model, it has the larger batwing pickguard which goes really well with the metallic finish. The single P-90 pickup and Maestro vibrato/tailpiece complete the relatively simple, no nonsense Junior package we all know and love. The single P-90 reads a healthy 8.34k and delivers plenty of bite, midrange push and open, vocal character.

The neck is very comfortable, measuring 39.7mm at the nut, with a slim feel in the lower positions at 20.2mm deep at the 1st fret, building to a fuller 25.1mm by the 12th. It retains its original larger frets, which remain in excellent shape and give the guitar a lively, easy playing feel. The headstock carries the correct 3-a-side double-line Kluson tuners with plastic buttons, all present and working as they should.

The finish checks out exactly as it should and the guitar presents as a very strong, original example throughout. Internally, the guitar is just as impressive. The pot cavity is clean, with the solder intact and the original CTS pots present, though the week codes are under solder. 

All in all, this is a really clean, investment-grade SG Junior in a rare original Sparkling Burgundy finish. Complete with its original black card case and Gibson hang tag it's hard to imagine a nicer or more complete package!
