Two mics, one working perfectly, the other has the same frequency range and level BUT HOWEVER it has a notable buzz that sounds exactly like a lack of shielding. They both worked at one point and have not had any drops or bumps or maltreatment.

Both have had their switches bypassed (you’re welcome) and removed. Both come with custom Amphenol 4-pin male to XLR male adapters. Please note that the color coding for the Ampex H-1390 is different than the EV623. These are both wired exactly the same and correctly for low-impedance output.

Anyways. These are super cool and vibey and gritty on pretty much any source. Yes, they are naturally a little wee bit distorted, and it is a mystery how they were ever sold as a clean mic, even back then. They are obviously an excellent starting point for telephone sound, but only if you significantly bandpass them -- pretty consistent response between 200 and 10kHz, falling below and above that. Unpredictable midrange resonances due to the neanderthal capsule housing.

We liked them on acoustic guitar, banjo, drum rooms, overheads, wurst/crotch mic, and the occasional vocal overdub.
