This is a 1998 Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Historic Collection Reissue, built during the late 1990s period that many Gibson enthusiasts regard as the golden era of the Historic Collection line.
Produced during what is commonly referred to as the Good Wood Era, this guitar showcases the exceptional wood selection, traditional construction methods, and naturally resonant character that have made instruments from this period highly sought after by players and collectors alike.
As shown in the photos, this example features a striking Flame Maple Top, displaying a level of figuring that is rarely seen on a typical R8. The combination of its deep Lemon Burst finish and three-dimensional flame pattern gives the instrument outstanding visual presence.
The guitar is constructed with a Mahogany body and neck paired with a Figured Maple top, delivering the rich midrange, powerful sustain, and impressive acoustic resonance associated with vintage-style Les Pauls. The substantial 1958 neck profile further contributes to its full-bodied tone and comfortable vintage feel. Many players continue to favor Historic models from this era for their open, dynamic response and exceptionally musical midrange character.
Equipped with a pair of Gibson ’57 Classic Humbuckers, the guitar produces warm and articulate PAF-inspired tones with smooth highs, rich mids, and excellent dynamic sensitivity.
Weighing in at 4.03 kg (8.88 lbs), it offers an ideal balance between the powerful tonal characteristics expected from a Les Paul and comfortable playability.
The original black Historic Collection hard case, supplied with Historic models of the period, is included.
