I just love this old unlabeled turn of the century flush-neck German fiddle. The BOB construction and plain tonewoods bring a simple elegance to this fiddle that not all will appreciate. The build is spare with no corner blocking or even a top lining. The neck is set flush with the body of the instrument and attached to the upper block with a nail as can be seen in the borescope photos. The hand-carved rough hewn scroll shows lots of chisel marks which was representative of this period of large German workshop violin-making. The instrument has survived the last 120 (give or take) years very well and only required some minor seam repair and ebony fingerboard redressing to prepare it for fittings. The original spruce soundpost and maple bridge were saved as was the composite Becker chinrest, ebony endpin, saddle, and nut. I selected a set of new Tonicas with the Gold label e string and her playing test did not disappoint. Although unrefined this fiddle's voice is highly resonant and powerful. If you're just starting out and looking to play old-time or bluegrass fiddle tunes this old fiddle will reward your efforts handsomely. This fiddle will come to you in the case it arrived to me in along with a vintage brazilwood bow that has a fairly straight/strong stick with new hair.

I am a lifelong woodworker from a family of musicians (yep, that's my son playing in the video:) with a love for these old instruments. I am not a storefront, and I do not charge high storefront prices for my work. As such, I do not wish to enter into returns, so please view the high-resolution photos carefully, ask questions, and watch/listen to the video before purchasing. I only sell and ship to the lower 48 states.

*Sorry, I do not sell to shops. If you represent a shop or are a re-seller looking to flip this violin, please move on.

**Sorry, there is no international shipping; ships only to the lower 48 states.
